Who needs the big apple and large crowds when you can spend some time by going around the neighborhood of your mosque to intoduce yourself (Name and Ahmadi Muslim), giving out salutations of peace, expressing a very happy new year and handing out gift bags full of Lindor Chocolate Truffles. Thats what the Philadelphia majlis did on December 23rd and the response they got was excellent. Their neighbors accepted the gifts graciously and were very happy to see all of them. Alhamdulillah! In the larger scheme of things there maybe nothing wrong with the big apple (everyone can wear an I LOVE NY shirt) or large crowds to bring in the new year but as MKA USA our satisfaction lies with serving our communities for the sake of Allah. This year has been an especially difficult one for some communities around the country due to many rampage and mass shootings that have killed many innocent people. The most recent example of these horrific acts was Newtown and its 26 innocent victims, 20 of them being children. But a lot of communities in general are suffering on a daily basis for various reasons (to many to count) and if someone can come to them to say, "we are here and we care," that will give them hope for the brand new year. In order for us to reach the status of being the America's Leading Muslim Youth Organization then these things matter. However, giving a gift in general is a tradition of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). We should follow his example the most when it comes to anything that we do.
Please follow the very awesome and good lead of the Philadelphia majlis and do something similar around your mosque. I am telling you its the best satisfying thing you can do around this year's new years eve for the sake of Allah. Is that not what we are all trying to achieve in the end anyways?
