Houston Hosts 13th Annual QRC

Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA held its 13th Annual Qaideen Refresher Course (QRC) during the weekend of November 16-18, 2007 at Baitus Samee Mosque in Houston, Texas.  The event drew over 179 participants from 52 Majalis across the country.  Every year since 1995, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA organizes the QRC as a way to train the leaders within the auxiliary.  The vast majority of the 179 participants included local Qaideen and Nazimeen, some of whom attended the annual event for the very first time.

The host Majlis this year, Houston, worked extremely hard to accommodate guests traveling from thousands of miles away --from Boston to Los Angeles, Charlotte to Seattle.  Baitus Samee Mosque served as an excellent venue to host the event.  The magnificent structure provided ample space for the variety of sessions.  Participants uniformly commented about the high level of comfort during the event.  The transportation team worked tirelessly picking up and dropping off  guests from multiple airports throughout the three days.  The Ziafat (food) team provided delicious meals at all hours of the day.  Regional Qaid Gulf Coast, Hamid Sheikh Sahib, along with his team, meticulously facilitated event planning, including on-site technology, overnight sleeping arrangements and special guest accommodations.

Day 1 of the QRC included an in-person National Amila meeting with Respected Sadr Sahib.  Highlights from the meeting included an annual review of Majalis activities, discussion of next year's department plans and Beloved Hazoor (aba)'s feedback for the Majlis as a whole.

Day 2 of the QRC began with collective Tahajjud prayers led by Muhtamim Taleem, Hamid Malik Sahib.  Special guest Sadr Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya Nigeria, Dr Saheed Timehim Sahib, gave a passionate Dars about the need for Khuddam to embrace obstacles and overcome them.   During the opening session, Naib Sadran, Muhammed Chaudhry Sahib and Rahim Lateef Sahib, solicited open feedback from the participants about the challenges they face as leaders of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA.  This session afforded participants the unique opportunity to control the focus and direction of the QRC.  Naib Sadran wrote down each of the challenges faced by the leadership and promised the participants that their challenges would be addressed during the course of the event.  Following the opening session, Muhtamim Atfal, Imran Hayee Sahib, spoke about the importance of Majlis Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya as a separate auxiliary of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya.  His team reviewed the annual progress of Majlis Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA and explained the goals for next year.  Next, participants benefited from an hour of "hands on help."  The interactive session consisted of four different information booths -- finance (ma'al), tajneed (census), website reporting and Khilafat Centenary Celebration projects.

Day 2 of the QRC continued after Zuhr Salat with a special two-hour Resource Fair.  As in previous years, Muhtamimeen arranged attractive booths for their respective departments.  Participants educated themselves about the various facets of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya work, from Taleem to Sehet-e-Jismani to Sanat-o-Tijarat.  Following the Resource Fair, participants divided into Regions to discuss the goals for the coming year.  At the same time, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA's web team explained how to navigate through the new website.  After Asr Salat, participants benefited from two additional sessions.  Naib Sadr, Rizwan Alladin Sahib, taught the newer Qaideen the essential ingredients for being an effective Qaid.  Naib Sadr, Abdul Hadi Ahmad Sahib, went over the Alm-e-Anami (Best Majlis) award criteria.

Day 2 of the QRC continued after Maghrib Salat with a detailed presentation by National Motamid, Nasir Ahmad Sahib, on what Qaideen should expect for the coming year.  Following Isha Salat, the host Majlis, Houston, provided a delicious Texan-style barbecue dinner for all participants -- complete with beef briskets and spicy burgers.  Following dinner, Respected Naib Ameer Jama'at USA, Munum A. Naeem Sahib, addressed the entire National Amila.  He spoke about his fond memories as former Sadr of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA from 1992-1998.  The National Amila directed questions to Respected Naib Ameer Sahib about ways to balance work, Jama'at and family.  Day 2 concluded with a special 1.5-hour optional interactive session from the Tabligh and Majlis Sultan-ul-Qalam departments.  Over 70 participants learned ways to further their Tabligh and writing efforts.  Respected Sadr Sahib gave an impassioned plea about how to develop an inner spiritual core in order to succeed in Tabligh.

Day 3 of the QRC began with collective Tahajjud prayers led by Mirza Harris Ahmad Sahib. Qaid Long Island, Dr. Irfan Alladin Sahib, delivered an informative Dars on the subject of brotherhood.  The morning proceedings picked up where they started on Saturday.  Naib Sadran, Muhammed Chaudhry Sahib and Rahim Lateef Sahib, re-visted the challenges enumerated during Day 2.  They summarized the explanations learned from the weekend's various sessions.  Next, Muhtamim Tabligh, Bilal Rana Sahib, moderated a very special "Leading My Qaidat" session led by two senior personalities within the Jama'at -- Rashid Ahmad Sahib of Milwaukee and Abid Haneef Sahib of Boston.  With over a century's worth of combined experience within the Jama'at, Rashid Sahib and Abid Sahib delivered spell-binding accounts of their past experiences as Khuddam.  Rashid Sahib narrated a video account of his travels to Rabwah, Pakistan where he spent time in the presence of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II (ra).  Reacting to the QRC proceedings, Rashid Sahib reflected: "The system of Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya does not need any fine tuning.  It is perfect.  The only thing left for Khuddam to do is to preach the cause of Ahmadiyyat."  Abid Sahib narrated biographical details about his teenage years and and early devotion to Ahmadiyyat.  Commenting on his Tabligh jaunt to Madison Square Garden in 1957, Abid Sahib reflected: "Back then, I led a group of young and excited Ahmadi men to preach Islam.  We did not care what happened to us.  A few of got arrested for preaching, but that only motivated us further."

During the QRC's final session, Respected Sadr Sahib awarded Rashid Sahib and Abid Sahib the first ever Mufti Muhammad Sadiq Sahib Lifetime Commitment Awards.  In addition, all Qaideen and outgoing Muhtamimeen received service awards, and Los Angeles East earned the top Majlis overall for Khidmat-e-Khalq, while Charlotte earned the award for the Majlis with the highest index score for Khidmat-e-Khalq.  After the prize distribution, Respected Naib Ameer Jama'at, USA, Munum Naeem Sahib, spoke about the importance of staying committed to the cause of Ahmadiyyat.  He reminded the participants about the special responsibilties of the youth towards Jama'at Almaghir.  Respected Sadr Sahib concluded the QRC by reminding all participants of the value of trust.  Positions within Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya are a trust from Allah and his Khalifa, and this trust should never be taken lightly.  Qaideen must strive to maintain communications with Regional Qaideen, Muhtamimeen and Naib Sadran.  Respected Naib Ameer Sahib closed the session with silent prayers.
