FAQ:
Q. What sports will be offered?
A. Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Cricket, Track
Q. How do I participate?
A. Top 3 teams from each region in basketball, volleyball and top team from each region in cricket and soccer can participate. Track is open to all.
Q. Can we have regional teams?
A. Yes, but the winning majalis’ have precedence over regional squads. No player is allowed to player is allowed to play on a team outside their respective region.
Q. What can I do if I am not part of the top teams from my region?
A. Track will be open to all. We will also have a fun fair where various activities will be held.
Q. Will there be Referees?
A. Yes, we will have designated referees for all sports. Referees will be allowed to play if they are part of a team.
Q. Can I participate in multiple sports?
A. Yes, however, keep in mind that some sports will be going on simultaneous and you may be forced to choose one. Please have substitutes ready if this happens.
Q. Will brackets be posted online?
A. Yes, all brackets will be posted two weeks prior to Ijtema (check the website for updates)
Q. Can I play on multiple teams for same sport?
A. No.
Q. When and what is the fun fair?
A. On Friday from 4-7PM. Includes fun games such as dizzie izzie, football toss, goal kicks, etc.
Q. Can an ansar participate on a team?
A. In the spirit of brotherhood, yes, 1 Nasir is allowed per team.
Sports Rules and Timings:
Friday 4pm-7pm: Cricket, Soccer, Fun Fair
Outdoor Soccer Rules:
• 9 vs. 9 play (including goalie) with two 12-min halves – single elimination
• team can have max 15 players
• no offside calls will be made
• yellow card means warning and red card means ejection, two yellow cards to same player results in ejection
• if tied after regulation game will go into shootout with each team getting 3 penalty shots, goalie can not be changed and only players on field at the end of the game can attempt a kick, this will continue until we have a winner, each player can attempt a maximum of 1 kick
Cricket Rules (Nazim: Asif Mahmood, 703.774.8280)
• Each team will consist of 11 players (min of 8 players are required).
• Each game except final will be of 4 overs (each team has to use min. 4 bowlers)
• Final match will be of 6 overs (each team has to use min. 4 bowlers)
• Only 1 bouncer is allowed per over (bouncer means over the shoulder) But over the head will be always wide-ball (no run allowed except Wide-ball run)
• Waist high full toss will be No-ball.
• There will be no LBW. There will be no Bye or Leg Bye Run.
• Each Wide-ball and No-ball will count as one run. You may make extra runs on over throw
• Any unsportsmanlike conduct will be -4 runs (if not disqualified from the event)
• There will be 10 teams and 3 Rounds and a FINAL (both rounds are knock out round; loosing team will be out
First Round: Five matches will be played in this round; 5 teams will proceed to 2nd round. Team that has best average (say Team B) in the round will get by to the 3rd round
Second Round: Two matches will be played among the remaining four teams and the two winning teams will proceed to the 3rd round. Team that has best average in second round (say Team F) will get by to the FINAL.
Third Round: The other team from the second round will play against the team that got a by after the first round (Team B). Winner of this match will play the FINAL against (Team F) In case of a tie, the team that has best average of runs from previous all games will proceed to next round
(Total number of scores= Scores made by team in all previous games – scored made against the team in all previous games)e.g. Team A ( Runs they made in all games 140 – Runs made against them 120= Difference 20)Team B (scores they made in all games 110 - scores made against them 80= Difference 30)Team B will proceed to next round
Fun Fair (Nazim: Mansoor Shams, 443.538.7426)
• Open to all khuddam and atfal.
• Games such as Dizzy Izzy, Sack Race, Wheel Barrel, Firemans Carry, Goal Kicks, Football Toss and more!!
• Please abide by all guidelines set forth by administrators for your own safety.
Saturday 3pm-7pm: Basketball, Volleyball, Track
Basketball Rules (Nazim: Hibbi Iqbal, 703.655.5052)
• 4 vs. 4 play in prelim’s (half court) – 5 vs. 5 (semi’s and finals), maximum 10 players per team.
• 15 minute game or first to score 11 (1’s only during preliminary rounds)
• Single Elimination Tournament, Losers Ball Out
• Refs will call all fouls, no fouls shots only possession, if fouled and shot goes in the basket is good
• Technical foul will result in automatic 1 point and the ball for other team. Two technical fouls results in player ejection.
• Each Team will be allowed one timeout per game.
• No 3 second call will be enforced in half court games.
• Finals and semi’s consist of 2 – 15 minute halves full court. College basketball rules will be enforced. Clock will stop in the final 2 minutes. Free throws will be shot after 5th team foul. Ref discretion on shot clock (30 second maximum).
Volleyball Rules (Nazim: Kashif Chaudhry, 347.749.3257)
• 6 vs. 6 with indoor volleyball rules in effect
• full rotation is required after you win serve in a clockwise fashion, top right player is only one allowed to serve
• games will be played to 25 using rally points, meaning points are given after every volley
• all net touches, carrying, palming, double touches will be enforced and point will go to opposing team
• players can move to any position after serve but must return to proper position before next service
• if ball hits net on serve an goes over it is a live ball there will be no re-do’s
• ball must be visible and score must be said aloud before ball is served into play
• balls that hit boundary line are good
• ball can only be struck with any part of the body above the waist (no kicking)
• a player can not block or attack a serve
• a back row player cannot spike or block a ball from the front row
Track Rules:
• 100M Dash, 4 x 100M relay (teams must be within region), 1 mile race
