Ijtema 2010 - FAQ_______________________________________________________________________________________
What do I need to bring to Ijtema?
Sleeping Bag, Prayer Cap, MKA Scarf, Bug Spray, Toiletteries
Why was this location chosen? It was hot at night last year.
To address the temperature issue, the team has rented large scale portable air-conditioning units, increased the sleeping area and more than double the number of electrical fans. The site offers a robust infrastructure of bathrooms, showers, audio-video support and is located close to major airports.
Am I allowed to bring my non-Ahmadi guest to Ijtema?
Yes. We are trying to arrange a special dinner or lunch program for the guests. Tabligh guests may also be allowed to partake in sports on a case by case basis.
What if my guest wants to stay at a hotel. Will he be allowed?
Yes.
Will there be any new programs this year?
Yes. We are planning on holding a Nau-Mubaeen conference two days prior to the Ijtema at the same location. Atfal Rally will also be held. Other programs to encourage sports, writing workshops, career fair are also being arranged.
Why do we have tight rules about people leaving the premises?
We have members between the ages of 7 to 40 and it is very difficult to draw the line as to who is ‘old enough’ to go out independently and who is not. We provide secure entrance and exits in order to keep everyone safe.
What if I still want to leave the premises for a short while?
Yes.
Will there be some way to enforce quite time for sleep at night? It is disturbing to hear people talk till 3 am.
We always have a discipline team to enforce sleep time but lack of volunteers becomes a challenge. Please volunteer on this team and help us improve the experience for all.
What if I want to stay at an area hotel? Am I allowed?
We discourage that. Staying under one roof and building bonds of brotherhood is an integral part of Ijtema experience. However, in the past some brothers strongly feel that they should have the freedom to stay at a hotel. Therefore, we will not force people. You may stay in a hotel if the following conditions are met:
i) Ijtema team will not be responsible for your safety or any other unforeseen circumstances.
ii) You will be responsible to notify your parents or guardians BEFORE coming to Ijtema that you have decided to stay in a hotel at your own risk.
What mechanism we have to prevent people from stealing?
While we do our best to educate and enforce guidelines, it is impossible to meet everyone’s needs at such a large gathering. We strongly encourage you to not bring your valuables and if you must, then take care of your important items (e.g. cell phone, blackberry, cash etc) as Ijtema staff cannot be held responsible for your loss.
Can you please add more American food?
Yes, this year we will. Insha Allah
Bathroom facilities have typically been a problem in the past. What is being done to fix that?
This site has more than 20 built-in showers. Bathroom facilities are also more than 100% in quantity. Better quality shower partitions are being planned this year. We always need volunteers to join us on the Bathroom cleaning team.
Will there be Pizza or ice cream for us to buy onsite?
We are working on making food available round the clock and also for purchase. If you are interested in setting up a food stall, please contact us no later than May 1st 2010.
What if I have to leave early on Saturday night or Sunday morning? Will I be allowed?
Yes.
