Closing Prayer for Ramadhan by Hazrat Musleh Maud (RA)
Closing Prayer for Ramadhan
by Hadhrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad
Khalifatul Masih II & Hadhrat Musleh Ma’ud, the Promised Reformer
Hazur (RA) composed this prayer during the first Ramadhan under Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya, 100 years ago in 1908. In reading the prayer, one can see the depth of love he held for Allah, the Holy Prophet (saw) and the Promised Messiah (as); and the deep concern that resonated from his heart for the welfare of the Jama’at and the well-being of its members.

In the following year, he published the prayer with the intent and hope that sincere
members would likewise offer this prayer and attract Divine grace for all.
As he was “Musleh Ma’ud,” the Promised Reformer, his words and prayers carry a reformative
quality, giving new life, understanding, and direction to Jama’at members, whether alive then,
now, or in the future. Along with the prayers that our present khalifa, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V
(aba) has directed us to offer, this prayer will continue to bless our Jama’at for generations to come,
Insha’Allah.
Hadhrat Musleh Ma’ud (ra) wrote:
“I was searching for an article on my table for the journal, Tashheezal Adhan, and I came
across a piece of paper which contained the prayer that I had submitted to God Almighty last year
(1908) during the month of Ramadhan. After reading the prayer I felt a strong urge to direct
Jama’at members towards it also, for it is not known whose prayers would be heard and at what
moment the special grace of Allah would descend upon the Jama’at. Thus, my real purpose in
expressing my heartfelt pain and anguish and printing this prayer here is that some pious person
may become inspired and may start praying to His Lord for his self and for the sake of the Jama’at.”
The prayer is as follows:
"O my Master, my Almighty God, my dear Lord, my Guide. O Creator of the Heaven and the
Earth. O Controller of the elements, O the God Who since the creation of Adam (as) up to the time of
Jesus (as) has sent thousands of prophets and numerous spiritual guides for the guidance of mankind.
O Supreme God, Who has sent someone so eminent, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), as a
Messenger.
O Gracious God Who for the purpose of guidance has raised the Messiah among the obedient
servants of the Holy Prophet (saw). O Creator of light, O Dispeller of darkness, I bow in humility in front
of You, and absolutely You alone, like a disgraced person, and I most humbly implore You to listen to
and accept my supplications, for it is Your promises themselves which have encouraged me to dare
submit my pleas in front of You. I was nothing, and You created me. I was non-existent, and You brought
me into being. You created four elements for my sustenance, and You brought forth people for my care
and protection at a time when I could not even express my needs. You gave me those people (as
parents) who were instinctually worried and concerned about me. Then You caused me to develop and
fully mature and You provided for me amply and appropriately.
O my beloved God, yes, O my beloved God, You appointed Adam as my father and assigned Eve
as my mother. You selected among Your servants someone well-respected, who could seek Your favor
and concessions, and could beg Your mercy for this ignorant, foolish and unintelligent one. I was a
sinner but You overlooked my sins. I behaved wrongly but You forgave me. In every difficulty and
misfortune You consoled me. Whenever I faced any problem You helped me. Whenever I was going
astray You redirected me. Although I drifted far off, You remained near to me. I forgot You but You
remembered me. Whenever my parents, family, relatives, friends and companions were unable to assist
me, You extended the hand of support and revived me. When I became sad, You restored my
happiness. When I was down-hearted and depressed, You cheered and lifted me up. When I wept, You
made me laugh.
There might be someone who suffers in lonely abandonment, but on Your own You revealed
Your countenance to me. You made promises to me and fulfilled them, and never failed to keep Your
promise. I also made promises to You, and broke them, yet You disregarded this completely. I consider
no one more sinful than me, yet in my estimate You have not shown greater compassion to any other
sinner more so than to me. Your benevolence is incomparable and indisputable. Whenever I earnestly
beseeched and cried out to You, You always listened to my pleas and accepted them. I do not recall You
having ever rejected a single one of my prayers of distress.
So O my God, with a heavy heart and profound agitation, I drop down in prostration and beg
You to listen to my prayer and heed my plea. O my Holy God, my community is heading towards ruin, so
save them from destruction. If they call themselves Ahmadis, what concern and actual link do I have
with them until they reform themselves and purify their hearts and until they are fully intoxicated with
Your love? I care not about them! Only about my Lord! So O God, manifest Your qualities of grace and
mercy to the utmost and make them holy. Infuse in them the same enthusiasm and passion as that of
the Companions of the Holy Prophet (saw) and let them become anxious and concerned about the
state of Your religion (Islam). Let their righteous deeds outnumber and outshine their words. Let them
be wholly submissive to You and fully devoted to the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw). May the prayers of
the Promised Messiah (as) be accepted in their favor and may his pure and holy teachings be
embedded in their hearts.
O my Lord, save my community from trials and afflictions, and safeguard them from all types of
disasters and diffculties. Raise many of the spiritual elect among them and transform them into a
people with whom You are pleased. And make them a group that is special to You and save them from
Satan's influence, and continuously send down Angels on them forever. And shower blessings upon
blessings on this Community in both religious and worldly affairs. Ameen, O Lord of the worlds.
Next, praying for myself, my brothers, my mother, my sisters, my friends and for others whom I
note by name (below), I pray with great humility that You may bless us in this life and in the Hereafter,
and make us pious and righteous, and chosen by You, and among those who spread Your message.
Make us servants of Islam and grant us healthy and pure lives, and cause us to die as Muslims with
whom You are pleased at the time of death, and let our lives be free from Your wrath. Finally, I especially
pray for the Khalifa of the time. O my Lord, increase him in knowledge, wisdom and virtue, make him
successful in his work and save him from all troubles, and bless his plans and lead him along the ways
that represent the path of Islam.”
Hadhrat Musleh Ma’ud (ra) continues:
The purpose of printing this prayer here is that perhaps some pious person may benefit
from it and start praying for the progress of Ahmadiyyat and Islam particularly in this sacred month
of Ramadhan. In the end, I once again strongly exhort members of the Jama'at to not waste this
time. Go before God for worship during the night and do charitable service during the day. It is a
golden rule that if you become a Community that sincerely acts along these lines, then God
Almighty in His Holy Word promises success. Thus, who is unfortunate? It is the one who has no
trust in God's promises. May God establish unity amongst us, and grant us the capacity to do good
deeds and oer prayers, and may He dispel the days of darkness and spread the brilliant image of
true Islam throughout the world. Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
