Amjad Mahmood Khan, Regional Qaid
On Saturday, February 2, 2008 -- at the occasion of the National Majlis-e-Amila meeting at Baitur Rahman Mosque in Silver Spring, Maryland, respected Sadr MKA USA, Faheem Younus Sahib, announced the "Best Region" Award for the year 2006-07. Alhumdholillah, by Allah's sheer grace and mercy, MKA Southwest earned the top honors.

In 2006-2007, MKA Southwest consisted of 6 Majalis: Las Vegas, Los Angeles East, Los Angeles West, Phoenix, San Diego and Tucson. The prestigious "Best Region" award could not have been possible without
the tireless and selfless efforts of Regional Nazimeen, local Qaideen, and local Nazimeen.

Below are some notable accomplishments and highlights from the year:
• MKA Southwest earned the "Best Region" award for its performance at the 29th Annual National Ijtema in Milton, New York (July 2007). The award was based on five factors: distance traveled, total attendance, total commitment, online registrations and online registrants who showed up. A record 51 Khuddam and Atfal from the Southwest Region attended the Ijtema. In addition to individual awards, the Region won Second Place overall in basketball and Third Place overall in soccer.
• MKA Southwest collected over 100% of its annual Chanda budget with 100% participation (first time ever). By hard numbers, the Region collected over $29,000 from over 180 Khuddam and Atfal.
• MKA Southwest placed second overall in the nation in the completion of Taleem quarterly workbooks. LA West Majlis ranked #2 overall in the nation in the completion of Taleem quarterly workbooks.
• LA East Majlis ranked #1 among all Majalis in the nation in Khidmate-Khalq activities.
• Over 55 Khuddam and Atfal from the Region attended the 1st Annual Musleh Maud Sports Tournament in San Jose, California in November 2006.
• Respected Sadr, MKA USA personally visited all 6 Majalis in January 2007.
• Over 40 Khuddam from the Region attended the first-ever Regional Qaideen Refresher Course (QRC) in Chino, California in February 2007.
• Over 70 Khuddam and Atfal from the Region attended the 3rd Annual Regional Ijtema in Tucson, Arizona in March 2007 (first time ever that a Regional Ijtema was held in Tucson)
• Over 60 Khuddam and Atfal from the Region attended the 21st Annual West Coast Ijtema in San Jose, California in May 2007. Total attendance at the event was 122 Khuddam and Atfal. For the first time ever, the entire National Majlis-e-Amila of MKA USA -- 38 members in all -- journeyed to the West Coast. A special trip to Yosemite National Park with the National Amila was arranged the day after the Ijtema.
• Over 35 Khuddam and Atfal from the Region attended the first-ever week-long National Tarbiyyat Camp in Los Angeles, California in August 2007.

Alhumdholillah, 2006-2007 proved to be an exciting and productive year for the Southwest Region. May Allah continue to give us the strength and patience to discharge our responsibilities as Khuddam and Atfal in the best and most humble manner. Insha'allah. May Allah reward the efforts of all those dedicated to His cause. Ameen.

High travel costs may be a reason for me to miss the National Ijtema this year:
