Soccer Rules

MIST 2009 Official Soccer Rules

  • Soccer will be played five on five including goalie.
  • Each game will consist of 10 minute halves.
  • Finals will be 10 minute halves.
  • In case of a draw during the regulation period. Teams will have a sudden death shoot out consisting of 3 penalty kicks for preliminaries games and 5 penalty kicks for playoff games.
  • Goalie is allowed to use his hands
  • Games will begin by a coin toss where the team winning the toss will decide which goal to attack and the other team will kick off. Person kicking can touch the ball again only after it has touched another teammate.   The other team will receive the ball first in the second half.
  • Yellow card by the referee means that the player or team has been warned. The next yellow card may result in an ejection. Red card may result in an ejection of the player, forfeit of the team, or possible suspension of the player or team from future tournaments.
  • Red or Yellow cards may be a result of dangerous play, taunting, inappropriate language, or any disrespectful behavior towards another player or referee. 
  •  Direct kicks (where you have the option to kick directly towards the goal) will be awarded for any harsh fouls such as hitting or kicking another player, or dangerous slide tackling. The referee may or may not decide to give a penalty card on the play.
  • Indirect kicks (where another player has to touch the ball before kick towards the goal) will be awarded for minor fouls, or penalties such as hand balls. 
  •  Penalty kick during the game will be awarded for fouls that take place inside the penalty area such as hitting, kicking, any dangerous play, or deliberate hand balls.
  • Hand ball is considered any deliberate touch of the ball by any point between the finger tips to the top of the shoulders. Sticking your arm out to cause a disadvantage to the other team is a hand ball. Hand ball will not be called for any accidental contact or if a player is protecting himself from injury. 
  • There will be no off sides.
