Earlier this week I overheard a man ordering lunch whose accent reminded me of my Norwegian relatives. Upon asking if he was from Norway, the man replied with a warm smile, "No, Denmark. But close." 
While the man's smile was a welcoming sign, it evoked a sense of sadness within me, as it sharply contrasted with the recent depiction of the Danish. For Danish newspapers to republish offensive caricatures of Muhammad, while rejecting the publication of offensive caricatures of Jesus, is very upsetting. By no means am I encouraging Jesus' personage be maligned, rather that the Danish newspapers observe the same rule in both instances. In doing so, they will not be bowing down to extremists, but to the rules of decency. 
When one thinks of Denmark, Hans Christen Anderson, an eco-friendly culture, high literacy rates, and, of course, Legos all come to mind. Duplicity, however, does not.
