Indonesia and Radical Islam

Sadanand Dhume is dead on in his depiction of Indonesia's escalating devotion for Islamist extremism ("Adultery in Aceh," op-ed, Sept. 16). Whether it is stoning of women or bombing of innocent civilians, radical Islamists have it wrong. As a member of the Ahmadiyah Muslim community, I strongly condemn such flawed understandings of Islam that leave no room for diversity of thought. Radicalism runs counter to the core Islamic principle mentioned in the Quran: "And if thy Lord had enforced His will, surely, all who are on the earth would have believed together. Wilt thou, then, force men to become believers?"
