Focus On YouthsBy: Ahmed Khan
In the words of President Barack Obama, the incident in Arizona is truly an "unspeakable tragedy." Retrospectively, out of all the innocent people who were killed - including a 9-year-old girl - it was shocking to learn that a youth of our nation was responsible for this attack.
The standoff of a 15-year-old in a Wisconsin high school a month ago or an extreme case like Columbine shows us that there is a greater need to focus on the youth. As a member of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya USA (
www.mkausa.org), a youth auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, our founder Mirza Basheerudin Mahmood Ahmad once said, "Nations cannot reform without the reformation of the youth."
Jared Loughner, allegedly responsible for the Arizona shootings, may be a lost cause, but we must focus on reforming youth like him who still have a chance.
