Sir:

I read with trepidation about the arrest of scores of Ahmadi Muslims in Saudia Arabia (“Saudia Arabia's cleansing,” 1/11/07).  The act of arresting Hajj worshippers during prayers is emblematic of the self-defeating acts of many so-called Muslims in the world today.  It is a massive irony that those who profess to follow the religion of peace and tolerance would succumb to such lengths to harm their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters.  I deliberately say Muslim brothers and sisters because anyone who professes to be Muslim is a Muslim, whether the majority of us thinks so or not.  We cannot usurp God's exclusive right to judge a man's faith.  That is one of Islam's great beauties.  Ahmadi Muslims fervently pray just like other Muslims.  Why should not the Saudi government let their prayers be heard?  They may one day save the Islamic world.

Sincerely,

Amjad Mahmood Khan
