A Muslim Reflects On Thanksgiving
By: Sohail Husain

On this Thanksgiving, I as an American-Muslim belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community appreciate that our nation gives thanks for all that we have by serving those who don’t have as much.

Why is this important to me?

It’s because the Prophet Muhammad said “if you love your Creator, then love your fellow beings first.”

In a world marred by distrust among faiths, moments of thanks such as this are necessary to bring us all together in common humanity.

Thus as I admire all those who give of their precious time in soup kitchens or food pantries throughout America during the holiday, I recall the Prophet’s wise counsel, “Love the poor and let them come to you [for assistance], so that God will draw you near to Himself.”
