Al-Qaeda Attack A Shameful Act
By: Wajahat Ali

Al-Qaeda's recent attack on Our Lady of Salvation Church in Iraq has left nearly 60 peaceful worshippers dead. Despite claims to fight for Islam, their actions violate Islamic teachings.

The Qur'an (22:40-41) states that Muslims must fight to protect places of worship should the need arise - specifically mentioning churches in the process. In a letter to St Catherine's Monastery in Mt. Sinai, Prophet Muhammad stated, "Verily I, the servants, the helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizen. . . . No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' house. . . . Their churches are to be respected . . . No one of the nation of (Muslims) is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day."

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, I condemn this horrid action. My sincere prayers go to families who lost loved ones in the attack.
