Condolences To Nigerians Killed In Christmas Bombings
By: Nasir Ahmad

Boko Haram, an extremist group, has claimed responsibility for bombing several churches in Nigeria during Christmas services (“Christmas bombings kill dozens in Nigeria,” Dec. 26). The same group carried out several Christmas Eve bombings last year.

These extremists cannot justify these barbaric acts in the name of Islam, as the Holy Quran (22:40-41) instructs Muslims to protect all places of worship, explicitly mentioning churches. The perpetrators cannot be the true followers of prophet Muhammad, who mandated full protection of Christians from any act of aggression by Muslims. Indeed, St. Catherine’s Monastery in Mount Sinai, Egypt, today houses a facsimile copy of prophet Muhammad’s letter in this regard.

As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, I denounce all these acts of terrorism conducted in the name of religion. My heartfelt condolences go to my Christian brothers and sisters who lost their loved ones in these heinous acts of violence.
