
Albert Einstein once said, "Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means." To encourage functioning democracies to emerge in the Middle East, we as a nation should stop dividing ourselves as red and blue.
The Wisconsin stalemate between the Democrats and Republicans on the issue of unions has given our founding democratic principles a black eye. The issues are tough, but the goal is to work together for the people. That is democracy. We should pass this message on to the Middle East.
As an American Muslim, I know that Arab nations have a long road ahead to achieve this success. Their journey can be made easier if we give them the right example.
