This week, King will lead the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee hearings to assess the radicalization of Muslim Americans. Over 100 Muslim-American groups have compared the hearings to Sen. Joseph McCarthy or the House Committee on Un-American Activities. On Sunday, the coalition of groups speaking against the hearings gathered in New York to publicly protest them. As a Muslim American, I support these hearings as a way to declare a unified position against terrorism. I participate in programs that spread a message of peace and loyalty to the United States by going door to door and to major events distributing fliers. I believe these hearings will spread a powerful message of peace to all Americans and will encourage national solidarity.
