He Doesn't Speak For Us
By: Bilal Rana (bottom p. 2)

I might seem to have a lot in common with Faisal Shahzad, the accused Times Square bomber. We're both Pakistani-born U.S. citizens. We're both college-educated and 30 years old. We also both claim to be Muslim.

How we interpret our faith, however, makes all the difference.

His concocted beliefs have translated into violence, while mine are intended solely for peace. I come from a traditional Muslim family that prays, fasts and has attended the mosque our entire lives. I have no idea under what authority he thinks he can kill innocent people. Our scriptures even state that killing an innocent person is like killing all of mankind (Qur'an, 5:33)

All faiths have those given to fanaticism. Just weeks ago right here in Michigan, the Hutaree (or "Christian Warriors") were arrested for allegedly plotting to kill a police officer and then blow up his funeral attendees - in the name of Christ. There is no difference between this and a so-called Muslim terrorist plot.
