I don't see a contradiction in being an American Muslim. As a young naturalized American Muslim citizen of Pakistani descent, news of the Times Square attempted bombing and suspect Faisal Shahzad was deeply disturbing. The bombing threatened my country, and Shahzad embarrassed my faith and country of origin ("Times Sq. aftershocks," Editorial, Friday).
I belong to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, whose American members have always been, and always will be, faithful citizens.
Coming from a country where opportunities are limited, persecution is rampant and freedoms rare, I not only love America but also remain loyal and contribute to the progress of this country, which has contributed so much to my progress.
My message to people such as Shahzad is that when you come to the United States, think of what this country offers to you. If you call yourself a Muslim, then you must be a peaceful and productive citizen of America. This is what your faith demands, and what is necessary to maintain a peaceful society.
