Terrorists Attacks Impact Oshkosh Muslims
By: Fateh Ahmad

The recently grotesque terrorist attacks on two mosques in Pakistan not only targeted the Ahmadi Muslim Community in Pakistan but also has a deep impact on the Ahmadi Muslims right here in Oshkosh. The detail news about this incident was published in your esteemed newspaper on Saturday May 29th 2010. These terrorist attacks killed more than 90 innocent Ahmadi Muslims and injured more than 100. Many of the members of our community in Oshkosh originally hail from Pakistan. Many of us had prayed in these two very mosques. I myself used to offer my weekly Friday prayers in the mosque located in Gari Shahu neighborhood and personally knew some of those killed. These attacks are the culmination of years of un-policed persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat, which is a minority sect in Pakistan. In 1974 legislation was passed that declared Ahmadis to be 'non-Muslim' and in 1984 further legislation was passed in which the practice of the faith was outlawed.
