Mr. Khan's statement about legal protection for Ahmadi Muslims is disappointing. As an Ahmadi Muslim who spent nearly 30 years in Pakistan, I sense the prejudice behind this statement. I was 13 years old when Ordinance XX was passed in 1984. I vividly remember being scared of greeting my friends withAssalamu Alaykum ("Peace be upon you"), as that could have landed me in jail. Is this the legal protection that Mr. Khan is referring to?
Religious clerics not only openly incite people to kill Ahmadi Muslims, but state such an act may provide you a ticket to heaven. As a result, more than 200 law-abiding Ahmadi Muslims have lost their lives since 1974. Have the authorities ever taken any action against these clerics?
