Pastor Jones' Call Doesn't Reflect Jesus

To the Editor:
Islam holds Jesus Christ in the highest regard and encourages the following of his teachings. Pastor Terry Jones seems to have ignored those very teachings of love, tolerance and respect. His actions do not reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ found in the Bible or the Quran. Moreover, his actions are not representative of the American citizens who are more often than not open-minded and tolerant.

I am a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, born and raised in America, and this “Burn a Koran” day is deeply offensive as an Ahmadi Muslim and as an American.

Burning the Quran is an act that not only defaces religion, but the entire nation itself. Two-plus million law-abiding, peace-loving and tolerant Muslim citizens live in America. Pastor Jones should not burn our Quran nor hurt America by spreading hatred and intolerance. He should not forget the words found in Leviticus19:18: “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”
