On the Controversy Over Burning the Quran
By: Hamid Sheikh
... or making peace? We all remember the hurtful videos of an extremely small minority of people in the Muslim world dancing with joy at the tragedy of 9/11. Most unfortunately, these videos shaped the opinion of many Americans about the majority of Muslims who were just as traumatized at the senseless killing of innocent civilians as anybody else.
Pastor Terry Jones and his cohorts belong to a very small minority planning to burn the Quran. I'm an American Muslim belonging to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. We believe in the Messiah, and our motto is "Love for all, Hatred for None."
As with the videos, Jones' act will further the divide between Muslims and Christian Americans, despite the majority of Christian Americans vehemently opposing this act. Pastor Terry Jones should cancel the event in the interest of peace, for Jesus (peace be upon him) said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called Sons of God."
