Abdur Raqeeb Wali was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on April 17, 1932. He first heard about Ahmadiyyat in 1958 through a non-Ahmadi musician and read "Ahmadiyyat the trule Islam" by Khalifatul Masih the second. That was the book that led him to Ahmadiyyat and he signed bait in Boston in 1959/1960. Wali sahib says that at the time of his bait, he was unemployed and a person of the street. He says that "It was only through Ahmadiyyat that i changed my life and decided to go back to school". He then finished his high school and then went to Brandeis university to major in Mediterrainian Studies. He also learned Arabic there. He then got involved in community work and started teaching English as a second language. Later he became a Muslim Chaplain and that is what he does now. Wali sahib has been around the world about 3 times and has taught in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and spent time in India, Pakistan. He made the pilgrimage to Mecca in 1973.
