Nuruddin Abdul Latif Sahib was born in July 1937 in New York NY to Oliver Seth Galloway and Eugenia Mae Johnson... “Oliver Seth Galloway was a Baker and cook. Eugenia Mae Johnson, who was a house wife and she was an aspiring journalist. My mother died in 1947. She is fondly remembered and may Allah exalt her soul.”
Nuruddin Sahib Graduated from George Washington High School in June 1955. He attended Baruch College of Business of the City College of New York majoring in Accounting. After one year, He left school and went to work in the New York Public Library in the Reference Department. That’s where he fell in love with books.
In 1957, Nuruddin went to work for the City of New York, Department of Welfare as a Certified Accounting Machine Operator and remained there until 1961, when he left to attempt to study Music formally. During those years he worked and held various positions in operations until 1977 when he became a computer programmer.
Sometime around 1958, and after a long journey, in search of truth, in which Nuruddin was associated with the Nation of Islam (Elijah Muhammad) and The Muslim Brotherhood (Talib Dawud), he became intrigued by the music and personality of Yusuf Latif Sahib. In the year 1965, Nuruddin, by the Grace of Allah - (after having read ”The Philosophy and the Teachings of Islam”, “Ahmadiyyat the True Islam”, “The Introduction to the Holy Qur’an”, Ahmadiyya literature received from Seth and Yusuf Alladin of Secunderabad India, and “Where did Jesus Die”) - became convinced that the message of Ahmadiyyat was what was needed to save his people in general and the world in particular. He signed bai’at under the auspices of Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad (ra) Second Successor to Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah and Imam Mahdi (Alaihi Salaam),. The bai’at was signed at the Washington DC Mission House at 2141 Leroy Place where Maulana Jawad Ali was Missionary in Charge at the time.
Nuruddin Sahib became active in the New York Jama’at where he served on and off as the local Talim and Tarbiyyat secretary for the Khuddamul Ahmadiyya. In 1967, he attended his first Annual Convention where he met Munir Hamid who, in that year, became the first Qaid for Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya (MKA)USA. Nuruddin was asked to serve as the first National Talim and Tarbiyyat secretary for the MKA USA. He served in that capacity from 1967 to 1977. During those years, he co-edited a newspaper entitled ‘The Real Revolution’ with Munir Hamid, Akbar Tshaka Ahmadi, Jalaluddin Abdul Latif, Bilal Sunni Ali, and other khadim members of the New York, Philadelphia and other Jama’ats. The primary purpose of The Real Revolution was to present the claims and teachings of the Promised Messiah, and secondly to serve as a tool by which the Khuddam could communicate the message of Ahmadiyyat Islam outside the movement - in short, to serve as a mass communications tool. The title of the newspaper was inspired by Hazrat Musleh Maud’s book, ‘The Real Revolution’.
While serving as Khuddam education secretary, Nuruddin Sahib was instrumental in helping to develop a three tier education program which included a two year education program based on the Ahmadiyyat literature that was available at that time. Nuruddin Sahib also helped in developing the first national Da’ee Illallah program under the Waqfi Ardzi program per the mandate of Munir Hamid sahib, the National Propagation secretary at that time.
He has served the New York Jama'at from time to time in Talim/Tarbiyyat and Tabligh roles. He was co-editor for the local newsletter for the New York Jama’at from around 1992. Also, during his last years in New York, Nuruddin Sahib conducted some Yassarnal Qur’an and elementary Arabic Grammar classes for the new converts and other members of the Jama’at. In the 1980’s, he attended the New Jersey Jama’at meetings, where he also conducted Yassarnal Qur’an classes for the Atfal. A consulting job allowed him to move to North Carolina in 1996, where he once again was elected Tabligh Secretary in 2001, and is presently serving the Jama’at in that capacity.
In 1974, Nuruddin was blessed to marry Rabiah Amatul Haqq Sahibah. He also graduated from The City College of New York with a BA in Liberal Arts with majors in both Philosophy and Sociology. In June 1983, he received a BBA degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Pace University in New York City. Nuruddin worked as a computer professional until he retired in 2001.
