He grew up in Detroit, accepted Islam Ahmadiyyat in 1948, and served the community in many capacities since then. He is currently 86 years old, and holds a doctorate in education from University of Massachusetts. He wrote his dissertation on “An Overview of Western and Islamic Education”. Mr. Lateef is also an accomplished world-renowned musician, an won a Grammy award in 1987 for his alternative music.
