2007 Masroor International Basketball Tournament hosted by MKA USA

QUEENS, NY., Feb 19, 2007 – The 2007 Masroor International Basketball Tournament came to a close yesterday after a weekend-long event. Held at Queensboro College, part of the City University of New York system in Queens, the tournament had teams participating from Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and all across the United States.

A total of 16 teams were assigned to 4 brackets, and play established in a series of rounds and semi-finals before ultimately, Team Canada-A took the title.

More than just an ordinary basketball tournament, great emphasis was placed on creating mutual ties, and fostering new friendships. All participants were hosted by MKA USA and the Queens Majlis at Baitul Zafar Mosque. “We may have gathered here for a healthy competition, but we will all leave as winners having spent the weekend strengthening the bonds of brotherhood,” remarked Rizwan Alladin, Naib Sadr (Vice President), MKA USA.

This is the fouth year in succession that the Masroor International Basketball Tournament has been held and hosted by MKA USA. Previous tournament winners include Team MKA USA/Five Pillars, Team Canada, and Team MKA Southeast Region.

Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya was established worldwide in 1938, and later in the United States with the auxiliary’s first president in 1969. Since its foundation, MKA USA has grown to nearly 3,500 members in 59 chapters across the United States, with its national headquarters located in Silver Spring, Maryland. According to the auxiliary’s founder, Hadhrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad (ra), “the very name of the organization indicates that its members are Ahmadi servants of mankind.” MKA USA is the Youth Auxiliary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
