Letter to Dawn by Qasim Rashid
Dear Editor,
Recently, two more Ahmadi Muslims were martyred for no other reason than peacefully practicing their faith As an Ahmadi Muslim living in America, I commend Dawn on reporting the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan consistently and accurately. Indeed this is an act that maintains the journalistic integrity of Dawn.
However, I wonder at what point the people of Pakistan will stop acting like criminals and begin acting like Muslims? How much longer will they stand by and watch their fellow Pakistani Citizens gunned down in cold blood? Though the people of Pakistan profess to want peace, their actions, or rather inaction against these atrocities make their intentions suspect.
Until and unless the people of Pakistan stand up as a whole and reject the insult to Islam in their constitution known as the "blasphemy laws," they will continue to condone the destruction of their own nation. Ahmadi Muslims are peaceful, law abiding human beings, and they deserve the right to exist. Pakistan must take back its nation from the virus of extremism, or face the inevitable of self destruction.
Let us hope Pakistan chooses wisely, not just for the sake of Ahmadi Muslims, but for the sake of its own soul.
Sincerely,
--
Qasim Rashid
