Persecution of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Continues During Ramadhan
Majlis Sultan-ul-Qalam, USA
Sep 13, 2008 - Anti-Ahmadi assailants murdered two Ahmadi officials in Sindh on September 8th and 9th, respectively.  The first, Dr. Abdul Mannan Siddiqui, a 46-year-old prominent physician and U.S. citizen, was gunned down in Mirpur Khas at the hosital he worked at.  The second, Sate Muhammad Yusuf, a 70-year-old farmer from Nawab Shah, was gunned down on his way back from work.  Both murders come just days after a popular international television program, GEO TV's Aalim Online, aired a special program celebrating the thirty-fourth anniversary of the constitutional amendment in Pakistan declarating Ahmadis to be non-Muslim.  The program's host, Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain, and guests, two Muslim clerics, repeatedly leveled hate-filled attacks on the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and branded all Ahmadis as wajib-ul-qatl, or "worthy of death."

Majlis Sultan-ul-Qalam, USA has undertaken an urgent campaign to inform local, regional, national and international media outlets, including television and print media, about the horrific murders and the equally disturbing hate speech fueled by GEO TV's Aalim Online.  This page serves as a repository of the work related to the campaign.

 Timeline of Events

September 1st, 2008

Sheikh Saeed Ahmad, an Ahmadi shop keeper, isshot and severely injured at his shop in Karachi on the eve of Ramadhan.

September 5th, 2008

A police case is lodged against several Ahmadi shop owners in Rabwah for displaying and selling the timing chart for Ramadhan. The timing chart is alleged to  to have injured the feelings of Muslims and to be an act of "posing as Muslims," offenses punishable under Pakistan's criminal penal code. Some of theindividuals prosecuted had already passed away years earlier. A ten year old boy is included among the suspects.

September 7th, 2008

Throughout Pakistan, Muslims celebrate the 34th anniversary of Pakistan's Second Amendment to the Constitution declaring Ahmadis to be non-Muslim. Mullahs across the country organize public gatherings and render inflammatory comments about Ahmadis, their elders, and their beliefs. They urge the general public to punish Ahmadis for their beliefs and declare that it is compulsory for Ahmadi heretics to be killed as punishment.

A television program, Aalim Online, is broadcast on the GEO Television Channel, which is seen in a number of countries, including Pakistan, America, and the United Kingdom. The program includes both a panel discussion and telephone conference that are intended to provoke anit-Ahmadi sentiments and inspire religious violence.  During the broadcast the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be upon him), is spoken of in the most vile and grotesque language. The program's host, Dr. Amir Liaquat Hussain, and guests, two Muslim clerics, repeatedly brand Ahmadis as wajib-ul-qatl, or "worthy of death."

September 8th, 2008

Dr Abdul Mannan Siddiqui, a physician by profession, and owner of Fazle Umar Medical Center in Mirpur Khaas, is killed in hospital while he is attending to his patients. He suffered severe bullet injuries and died on the spot. Three others, including a private guard Muhammad Arif, Ghulam Husain, am attendant of a patient, and a woman, Husna Narejo, sustained bullet injuries. Dr Siddiqui also was the district president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and a prominent member of the civil society. The assailants came into the building disguised as patients.  They remain at large.

September 9th, 2008

Sate Muhammad Yusuf, a 70-year-old businessman and the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Nawab Shah, Sindh is murdered whilst at work. He is shot three times, including a fatal shot to his heart.

Motahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), a regional political party in Sindh, strongly condemns the burtal killings of Ahmadis and also the irresponsible broadcast of GEO TV's Aalim Online that served to incite the general public against minorities. It also severed its ties with the program's host, Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain.

September 11th, 2008

Dr. Amir Liaquat Hussain, host of GEO TV's Aalim Online, says in an article in Jang that he is proud of his program and would air it again if given the opportunity.

September 13th, 2008

Shaikh Saeed Ahmad who was critically injured on Sep 1st, succumbed to injuries and passed away in Karachi. He became the 3rd Ahmadi Martyr in this Holy Month of Ramadhan.
