MQM kicks out Dr Aamer Liaquat Hussain
By Fareed Farooqui
KARACHI: The Rabita Committee of
the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has terminated the basic membership of Dr
Aamer Liaquat Hussain and announced that it has no links with him from now
on.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the MQM said that Dr Aamer was
making statements that were creating “religious hatred”. He had been warned
earlier to stop saying such things on his television programme.
MQM said
that owing to this, his party responsibilities were ended one and a half years
ago and his membership was suspended as well. Now, the MQM has announced that Dr
Aamer has no affiliation with the MQM and he is alone responsible for his deeds
and words.
In the statement, the Rabita Committee said MQM chief Altaf
Hussain and its workers were working for religious tolerance, but Dr Aamer was
spreading religious hatred for “money”.
He became state minister for
Religious Affairs in the cabinet of former prime minister Shaukat Aziz. He
returned his portfolio, however, in protest against the British government’s
decision to knight writer Salman Rushdie. He then gave up his seat as an
MNA.
