Story of Our Shaheed

by Safeer Bhatti

Receiving threats, Dr. Manan Shaheed went to Karachi for four days. On the fourth day, he felt the situation calmed down and returned to Mirpur Kas. At around 2:30pm, Dr. Manan Shaheed was on the second floor of his hospital. He was going to see other patients when an urgent request came from his staff members to immediately go downstairs and see these two patients. The two patients had X-rays in their hand. When he came downstairs to see them among other patients present, the two extremists fired 8 bullets. The first one hit the guard behind him and Dr. Manan Shaheed ducked down. The second one went through his forehead. The extremists remained present on site with other patients there too, and continued to fire until he was completed shaheed.

I remember him as a child; he was a close friend of my father. He told me in 1994 that I was asked by my father to go back to Pakistan and help my people there. He told me that he sold everything even his "VCR" to go back. In Pakistan, he established a renown hospital with advanced medical technology from the US. With over 1,000 clientele, he was known as an humble servant of God; helping to heal the children of God.

When my Uncle went to see him, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants. There was so much blood that the color tainted the clothes in detail. There was a white band over his forehead covering his wound. He was buried with the same clothes as Shaheed in Rabwah.

The Pakistan Medical Association ordered a strike of 24 hours and for the next three days tried to find the extremists. In the next morning, they went to Syed Muhammad Yousef house during Iftari time. The gate of his house was open. The extremists came in and fired three bullets; one was fatal to the heart. He was taken to the hospital and was shaheed at the hospital.

In 1986, a similar situation occurred with two Amiran killed in Sindh. This is a five minute clip from Hazoor's Khutba telling and encouraging all Ahmadis to remain strong.
