During 2008 Regional Ijtema, Alhamdolillah, we collected 34 Bags of Blood. which, together with previous blood donations on the local level, accounted for over 58% of the Region's goals for the entire year. Mashallah! 5 Adopt a Highways. So far we have "Adopt a Highway" sign in the following majalis: Los Angeles, East; Los Angeles, Inland Empire; Los Angeles West; and Phoenix, Mashallah! Alhamdolillah Tucson's Adopt a Highway sign went up on July 13th, 2008. Las Vegas has their application has been approved and now we wait for our sign ________________________________________________________________ Regional KCC Visiting Homes Initiative. Our region has started visiting local homes. Alhamdolillah, all the majalis are participating. The Southwest Region Khilafat Team. Alhamamdolillah, this year Allah has blessed the US Jamaat with the visit of our beloved and dear Khalifa, Hazrart Mirza Mazroor Ahmed (aba). Per directions from Sadar Sahib MKA, the SW Reg. will have the honor to participate in the Khilafat Team. There are at least 14 members who are going to volunteer for at least one week. Moreover, there are more than 8 memebers who will volunteer duing Jalsa Days, Inshallah. Allah may bless them all, Ameen. Stories from Previous Years Over 50 Strong From Southwest Participate in the 2nd Annual Musleh Maud Sports Tournament Over 50 Khuddam from the Southwest Region, including 8 from LA West, 33 from LA East and LA Inland Empire and 10 from Phoenix Majalis, respectively, participated in the 2nd Annual Musleh Maud Sports Tournament (Flag Football, Cricket and Basketball) in Silicon Valley, California on November 10-11, 2007. The event drew almost 100 participats from across the country. Team LA East A stood second overall in flag football, and Team LA East B stood first overall in basketball. 37 Khuddam and Atfal attended the National Tarbiyyat Camp during the week of August 4-11, 2007 at Baitus Salaam Mosque in Hawthorne, California. The event marked the first time that a National Tarbiyyat Camp was held in the West Coast. Respected Missionaries Irshad Malhi and Shamshad Nasir Sahibaan led the team of teachers, which included National Secretaries Nasir Mahmood Malik Sahib (Tarbiyyat), Anwer Mahmood Khan Sahib (Tehrik-e-Jadid) and Dr. Waseem Sayed Sahib (Waqf-e-Jadid). Highlights included a day trip to the swim lagoon at Yucaipa Regional Park on Wednesday, August 8th. 51 Southwest Khuddam And Atfal Fly To New York For A Historic 29th Annual MKA National Ijtema This year's Ijtema was held on July 13-15, 2007, at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, New York. A record 51 Khuddam and Atfal from all 7 Majalis in the Region (including 26 from LA East alone) traveled to attend the annual event. For the first time ever, over 1,000 Khuddam and Atfal attended the event from across the Nation. Alhumdholillah. Masha'allah, the Southwest Region earned the "Best Region" award among all regions for its National Ijtema performance. The award was based on five factors: distance traveled, total attendance, total commitments, online registrations and online registrations that showed up. In addition, the Southwest Region won Second Place overall in basketball and Third Place overall in soccer. Rizwan-ul-Haq of LA Inland Empire won First Place in English Poem, and Dr. Ahsan Khan of LA East won "Outstanding Regional Nazim" for his Taleem efforts throughout the year. 122 West Coast Khuddam And Atfal Gather in Silicon Valley For A Historic 21st Annual MKA West Coast IjtemaThis year's Ijtema was held on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-27, 2007 at Silicon Valley's Baitul Baseer Mosque. Masha'allah, 122 Khuddam and Atfal from the West (North) and West (South) Regions from 12 Majalis traveled hundreds of miles to attend this historic event. 38 members of the National MKA Amila also held their first-ever meeting on the West Coast on Saturday, May 26th at the Mosque. Respected Sadr Khuddam, Faheem Younus Sahib, presided the Opening Session and delivered a key-note address during the Saturday evening session. The 3rd Annual Southwest Regional Ijtema took place at the Yousuf Mosque in Tucson, Arizona on March 31-April 1, 2007. 73 Khuddam and Atfal participated, including 57 Khuddam and Atfal from Las Vegas, Los Angeles East and Los Angeles West Majalis (driving over 7 hours). The Opening Session was presided by Respected Naib Sadr Khuddam, USA, Muhammed Ahmad Chaudhry, and included a welcome by Akram Kashmiri, President of Tucson Jama'at. Apart from various Taleem and Sports competitions, Khuddam and Atfal participated in interactive Tarbiyyat sessions, question and answer sessions led by Imam Shamshad Nasir (Regional Missionary) and a first ever Career Awareness Seminar. The event's highlight was a 3-hour early morning desert hike at Gates Pass (Tucson Mountain Park). Winding their way to the famous Bushmaster Peak, Khuddam and Atfal enjoyed stunning views of the cacti valley and surrounding mesas.
