Chicago West Majlis
If you had the opportunity to see the Audio/Video team’s impressive backstage workspace at the 2009 Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya USA Ijtema, you may have seen a young khadim manning the stations at night and doing very important audio/video work. This work seems as if it would be only entrusted to an older, tech-savvy khadim. However, this young man working behind the stage, making everything work isn’t a khadim just yet, He is Harris Nisar of Chicago West Majlis, this month’s rising star.

Harris Nisar, age 14, is the ideal example of what characteristics make a Majlis Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya, Rising Star. From his faith, to school and to his daily life, Harris is succeeding in everything he does. Harris rarely misses a local class, regional ijtema or even a national Atfal event as well. He completed his first reading of the Holy Quran at a very young age and now reads it with translation, rarely forgetting to recite the Holy Quran in the morning. Harris also can read and write Urdu as well, and writes his letters to Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih (aba) in Urdu as well. In school, Harris has received Straight “A’s” in his first 8 years of school, is a high honors student, and will, InshAllah, begin high school this year. Harris wants to become an orthodontist when he gets older and says he finds the field very interesting. Harris enjoys playing basketball and has played on his school’s team in 7th to 8th grade at the point guard position. Chris Paul is Harris’ favorite NBA player, who also happens to be a point guard.

Humble, confident and genuine are just a few words that describe Harris. Harris may be of a tender and growing age, yet from the way he carries himself, he is well beyond his years. When asked about this year’s Atfal Rally, Harris explained how this event was perfect for the Atfal because “it was a good learning experience and was very fun and all Atfal enjoyed it.” Harris also opened this year’s National Ijtema with recitation of the Holy Quran and commented that the National Ijtema itself was a “place of brotherhood” and “we’re in a great environment.” Lastly, when asked what advice he would give to other Atfal, Harris asks all Atfal to “remember who YOU are and stick to it.” May Allah enable Harris to achieve even greater heights in his life, both spiritually and academically and may Harris reach all his dreams and goals. Ameen.
