Waqas Ahmed April 2009
Tennessee Majlis
Twelve year-old Waqas Ahmed of the Tennessee Majlis fits the profile of a Rising star like a hand in a glove. Whether it is leading Taravih Prayers on the last weekend of Ramadan, regularly attending Jama’at meetings, helping with chores at the mosque, winning awards as a Tifl in Pakistan, or getting good grades in school, Waqas practically does it all. He’s an all-around star.
Waqas enjoys going to the Masjid so he can meet with his friends and pray to Allah. Atop his list of things to pray for are his family, his success at school, and his ambitions to become a doctor, Insh’Allah.
With the guidance of his parents, he has memorized several chapters and sections of the Holy Qur’an. During Ramadhan last fall, he had the opportunity lead Taravih Prayers at the mosque. In spite of his admitted nervousness, he did well Alhumdolillah.
Everyday after coming back from school, Waqas offers Zuhr prayers, and then moves on to completing his homework. Waqas’ favorite subjects in school are science and math. He particularly finds biology very intriguing.
For fun, Waqas enjoys spending time with his parents, and playing soccer and tag. He’s fond of wrestling and plans to join his school’s wrestling team. He also enjoys video games (Dragon Ball Z is his favorite) and tinkering with computers. He was recently able to fix his father’s old laptop, and often “reboots” computers (completely erases their hard drives, and restores them to good-as-new).
All in all, Waqas is a very dynamic young Tifl who has a bright future ahead of him, Insha’allah. May Allah grant him success in school and enable him to achieve his goal of one day becoming a neurologist. May He continue to grant Waqas a zeal for Jama’at activities and Qur’anic memorization, and keep his parents proud. Ameen.
