 Mutahir Ahmad - October 2009Austin, TX This month’s Rising Star is Mutahir Ahmad, son of Maqbool Ahmad, from Austin, Texas. Mutahir, an astute tifl, exemplifies the kind of excellence that has proven to be a distinct marker of young Ahmadi adults. While being an outstanding academic achiever and a competitive sport enthusiast, Mutahir Ahmad is equally engaged with Jama'at activities where he continually excels, setting a positive example for atfal around the nation. Although Mutahir is still in middle school, his academic involvement exceeds beyond just common middle school education. Just last year, he became an active part of the prestigious Austin Academic Magnets, a highly selective accelerated academic program that encourages independent research, group collaboration, presentation of new learning, and the development of original designs and solutions. It is clear that Mutahir embraces a good challenge and is keenly interested in making strong decisions for his future. Mutahir is focused not only on intellectual pursuits but also on physically intensive sports. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball with his brother, practicing his soccer skills, or just tossing a football. A leader on all fronts, Mutahir even plays soccer for his school team. He further showcases his competitive spirit by playing board games when he gets the chance; Monopoly and Scrabble are among his favorites. As expected of any rising star, Mutahir's already impressive accomplishments are generously augmented by his strong involvement in Jama'at activities. In particular, Mutahir attends every Atfal class and loves participating in the local Tarbiyyat Camp where he gets the chance to spend time with his friends. A regular attendee of local and regional ijtemas, Mutahir can often be spotted receiving a prize or two for his spiritual involvements. He has been to the last two National Ijtemas and looks forward to going again this year. What makes an individual outstanding is not simply academic, physical, or spiritual achievements but a positive attitude and a willingness to progress. Mutahir Ahmad exemplifies this characteristic so common among our Rising Stars by challenging himself on all fronts and by equally upholding his spiritual responsibilities.
