This month’s Rising Star features Saad Mansoor of the Queens Majlis. A very active Atfal, Saad is an eleven-year-old 6th grader. As Saad’s father, Naem Mansoor Sahib, calls one by one the names of his children who are sitting a couple rooms away from him, but he gets no response. Then he calls “Saad” in a softer voice, and suddenly this call elicits an obedient response: “Gi Papa Gi (Yes dear father)”. It is such actions of Saad - and the many desirable attributes of his character that so many of Saad’s elders and youngers see shining in him - that secure him a special and elevated place in the heart of his father.

Saad is well known to friends and family as an obedient, respectful and caring person. His Regional Nazim Atfal tells us, “This young Tifl puts in so much effort, and is so dedicated. He is so straightforward, and never lies. His personality is soft-hearted and easy going. He tries to learn whatever he is advised, and he listens carefully and implements on what he is told.”

A respected elder of the Jama’at who teaches Atfal classes, Hadi Nasir Sahib, found it so important to comment on Saad’s character, that he took Saad’s father aside on the busy occasion of his son’s wedding to explain to Mr. Mansoor how Saad is an “angel”.

One can immediately recognize Saad’s peaceful and loving nature by having a conversation with him. He enjoys reading Namaz because its an opportunity to thank Allah for everything that he wants and needs. When asked about his favorite uncle he responded that he loved them all because they all love him. He further says, “ I enjoy my life because I can help people and love the people who care about me. If they are nice to me I will be really nice to them.”

A great example that exemplifies Saad’s mild and peaceful temperament is his response when his younger brother hits him. Instead of hitting him back, the most Saad will try to do is politely explain to his little brother to stop. After being repeatedly hit by his younger brother, Saad was once encouraged by an elder to hit his younger brother to instill some sense into him. Saad respectfully refused to do so, humbly replying, “he doesn’t know any better”.

For fun Saad likes to watch cartoons on television, read comic books, and play games on his computer. Saad’s favorite subject in school is math, but he aims to do his best in all other academic subjects. InshaAllah he one day hopes to become a doctor and find a cure for HIV.
