Nasir Tour Highlights

PostCricketNasir Tournament 2011 Highlights

On October 1st 2011, we held our annual Nasir Cricket and Volleyball tournament in Willingboro New Jersey. Teams from Northern New Jersey and as far down to Virginia showed up. As always Khuddam gathering in one place to compete while promoting brotherhood made for a great atmosphere. Although rain was in the forecast, the weather held up and it ended up being a beautiful day for sports. Participation was from the East Region, Maryland, and Southern Virginia who always has a great showing. A non Ahmadi guest team also played from the East Region. Weather was perfect and the games couldn't have been more exciting.
In Cricket, the two teams which met in the finals of the National Ijtema faced each other again. Maryland having just beaten the East RegionWillingboro team at the National Ijtema came in with enormous confidence. East Region could not wait to see this Maryland team again for a rematch. Well they got their wish. Both teams demonstrated they were a level above the rest of the competition and met in the championship. This time, venue was different but result was the same. Maryland defeated East Region and now can say that they are champions of the Ijtema and tournament.
In Volleyball, the cream of the crop was the Southern Virginia team which cruised their way in to the finals where they faced an up and coming East Region team. This group of young Khuddam kept up point by point against the more experienced Southern Virginia squad. At the end, this group of young Khuddam claimed victory. This had to be one of the most exciting and entertaining match that our Jamaat has ever experienced at any level. There was defense, there was strategy, digs and smashes which were unbelievable and every game came down to the wire.
Overall, by the Grace of God this tournament in 2011 was a success. Willingboro did an excellent job hosting and the evening barbeque was well, if one word could describe it…"Yummy". Once again games gave us a reason to gather for physical and spiritual reasons. May God give us the strength to continue holding these events.
