Post Nasir Cricket and Volleyball Tournament StatsDept of Sehat-o-JismaniThe Nasir Cricket and Volleyball Tournament concluded on September 26th after a weekend full of intense competition and brotherhood. MKA USA hosted the return of cricket after a few years off at Masjid Bait-ur-Rahman in Silver Spring, MD. The tournament featured teams from many regions including Detroit representing Great Lakes, Willingboro representing East, Queens representing NY Metro, Maryland representing Headquarters and Virginia representing Capital Metro. The event began on Saturday morning with Naib Ameer, Naseem Mehdi sahib, presiding over the opening session and elaborating on how each Ahmadi should not only be spiritually strong but physically strong. One can not be a strong believer if his body is not physically fit. Needless to say, these brothers that made the sacrifice to come participate were no slouches. Also in attendance during the opening session was Naib Sadr, Rizwan Alladin, who thanked everyone for taking the time to come to the event. The session ended with silent prayers led by Mehdi sahib.

The games begun bright and Saturday morning on the newly designed cricket pitch constructed at the mosque. The organizers did a wonderful job having both the cricket and volleyball fields ready for play. The preliminary matches on Saturday featured some great games and highlighted some of the great talent MKA USA has to offer. Each preliminary cricket match was six over’s allowing ample playing time for each team. Some of the highlights of the day were the East Region putting on a great display of batting and bowling on route to a 3-0 record as well as North Virginia pulling off a great comeback by scoring 81 runs. South Virginia, Detroit and Headquarters also showed great teamwork and flashes of brilliance during the prelims.

The volleyball matches were single elimination best of three. The usual heavy hitters from Detroit, South VA and Queens were all present and ready to compete. Other volleyball teams included: Head Qaurters (Silver Spring, Laurel), South VA (B), Northern VA, and East Region. It was tough to see any team get eliminated as everyone played their amazingly with four teams advancing to Sundays semi finals (South VA, Detroit, East Region and Headquarters).

On Sunday the semi’s and finals took place for both sports. As was to be expected, the games were very competitive but one team had to win. This eventwas concluded at 1:30pm on Sunday. The conclusion session was presided over by Malik Masoud Sahib (National General Sec. USA), Malik sahib presented the trophies to the teams and closed this session with advising the Khudam on improving their physical and mental strength and they should utilise that strength by helping Jamaat and Khudam ul Ahmadiyya work. The East Region took home the first prize in cricket after beating the Headquarters region. Detroit, once again proved why it is a powerhouse in volleyball by taking home the first place trophy after a tough match against the aforementioned East Region. Other individual awards went to Hafiz Ahmad Khan from Head Quarter region for best batsman and best bowler trophy was given to Waqas Asgher from New Jersey. May Allah grant us the opportunity to continue to hold such events and bring together more brothers from across the country.
