2007 November - Mansoor Shams PDF Print E-mail
mansoorshams.pngShining Star of the Month- November 2007
Mansoor Shams, Silver Spring Majlis

This month, we profile the story of Regional Qaid Mansoor Shams of Silver Spring (Capital Metro Region), this month's Shining Star.

Mansoor's story begins in October 2004, when he had recently finished his active duty obligation with the United States Marine Corps. With a Bachelors degree in Business Administration in one hand and an honorable discharge in the other, he had accomplished something very few manage to do, complete a full-time education while serving as a full-time active duty U.S. Marine. Twenty-two years old, he was young and highly motivated, ready to take on anything that came his way.

The military had a policy which stated in a nutshell that anyone being discharged out of the military rated up to six months of unemployment. Not ready to take that offer, Mansoor quickly started his job hunt. After a month of working as a bank teller, he found a curious email sitting in his inbox inviting him to an opening job position for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The prospective job offered the opportunity to work directly with the Chairman of the SEC (William H. Donaldson) and serve as a Confidential Assistant. Mansoor quickly took heed of the opportunity, scheduling an interview with two of the Chairman's most senior officials. Shortly after the interview, Mansoor got another call, and this time, it was a call inviting him to meetwith the Chairman himself. Bewildered by the chance to get to meet with someone at such a high level, Mansoor quickly researched as much as he could. The Chairman was a presidential appointee, who had served as Chairman of Aetna and the New York Stock Exchange, the largest organized securities market in the United States. The following day, Mansoor walked into the interview praying hard for his success. He saw his prayers answered, when the Chairman asked, "When can you start?"

Mansoor constantly wondered how such unusual and random success could arrive so capriciously. He later found that his name had been selected out of a large database. This database contained thousands of names and out of those thousands he had been one of the few selected by the SEC to be interviewed.

Mansoor finds that such a story of stochastic success and satisfaction fulfills the prophecy of Hadhrat Masih Ma'ud, the Promised Messiah (AS). Here was a young man with no connections and no significant experience who was picked up by Allah Ta'la and placed outside the door of one of the nation's highest-level executives. "Out of thousands and thousands of people, they chose me, an Ahmadi", says Mansoor.
