2008 March - Shan Faizi PDF Print E-mail

shan.jpgShining Star of the Month
Shan Faizi, Charlotte Majlis

This month's Shining Star is Shan Faizi, a twelve year old Tifl who lives in High Point North Carolina with his parents, two younger brothers and an older sister. His Dada and Dadi (Paternal grandparents) also live with them.

They are in their mid-eighties and in need of constant care (and your prayers). By the Grace and Mercy of Almighty Allah, Shan deserves the Shining Star nomination because of a multitude of activities he excels in.
In school Shan is an AB Honor Roll student in Science and Math. He achieved first place in his school's Annual Science Fair project. Shan won by showing why according to Isaac Newton's Laws of Motion, a Perpetual Motion Machine is impossible to produce here on earth. He is also very engaged in his Social Studies classes and especially keen on vigorously defending and promoting Islam whenever he finds the opportunity to do so.
At the Masjid in Charlotte North Carolina, Shan is equally involved in all Atfal activities and is the recipient of various awards. He exhibits high initiative in doing whatever needs to be done in terms of keeping the Masjid clean and presentable. He assists Khuddam with vacuuming the floors or emptying the garbage cans and keeping the kitchen clean. Shan often gives Azan (call to prayer) and does whatever is asked of him without any hesitation. He likes to participate in after-school sports and athletic activities including boy scouting, where he has earned his Tenderfoot badge and is now working towards the Second Class rank while also keeping in pace to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. He is very mindful of helping his younger siblings and is helpful in showing them how to play better basketball, soccer or track. He tries to lead by example while striving to be a worthy role model for them.
At home Shan is a great help to his mother and father. In addition to helping with the regular chores such as putting away the dishes in the dishwasher, or sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors, emptying the garbage. He is especially helpful in caring for his Dada Jan and Dadi Jan. He is often by their sides helping them get up and escorting them to the dining table, or going along with them for slow walks around the house. In spite of the walking stick that Dada Jan uses there is a always a danger of him falling, so Shan takes precaution by holding his hand or his arm to provide enough support and confidence. Shan makes sure that there are two glasses full of water near their bedside every night. He often volunteers to sleep on the small sofa in their bedroom whenever either of them is feeling unusually weak or in case they were to wake up needing anything in the middle of the night. Shan wants to be there to help his family especially his grand-parents and he does this without being asked. Of course none of this would ever be possible if it were not for his commitment and devotion to the five daily Salat and also daily recitation from the Holy Qur'an.
It is for these reasons and many more that Shan is nominated for this month's Shining Star.
