Shining Star of the Month - April 2009______________________________________________________________________________________________________
He has lived in the Boston area since his family migrated from Pakistan in 1984. He went to Brockton High school where he graduated near the top of the graduating class. Due to unforeseen circumstances he quit college after his freshman year and began working for a tech support company. Shortly thereafter he resumed his college studies part time and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Masters’ degrees in Computer Science and Information Systems, respectively. He has transitioned his career from tech support to software developer, and now works as an IT Development Manager at EMC Corp in Massachusetts . Early in his career he had the opportunity to teach then new technologies like Java and .NET at technical schools, which helped him become somewhat of an expert within this domain.
He feels very blessed to have undergone the various experiences at work, but he believes that his work for the Jamaat has helped him tremendously in navigating his professional career. He became Qaid of Boston Majlis at the age of 15 and became the Jamaat Finance Secretary at the age of 18. Since 2003 he has had the good fortune of serving in the National Amila of MKA USA (one year as Muhtamim Isha’at and the rest as Muhtamim Maal). Serving in these various capacities he learned to balance the demands of office and home life, and become a better professional by learning to deal with personal issues, public speaking, managing events, and working with others through delegation. He recognizes that missteps during these activities provided the best lessons..
In his youthful days, he was a fairly active athlete.. Marriage, kids, and increased responsibilities have left him with limited opportunities to play sports like football, volleyball, ping pong and soccer. Once in a while though, he’ll escape reality for a 10-mile jog. He married in 1999 and now has three kids (Afshan, Sabeeha and Qasid).
He feels extremely fortunate to have lived in the Boston area where he was able to meet and hangout with some other truly shining stars. They include names like Abid Haneef Sahib, Yusef Lateef Sahib, Rasheed Khalid, Rizwan Alladin, Sohail Hussein, and Masood Ashraf. In their own way they helped shape his life. He feels honored to have known them and considers them among his best mentors.
