2010 August - Nisar Ahmad

Pittsburgh, Great Lakes Region

A Shining Star is someone who not only improves his own life, but the lives of all those around him.  Nisar Ahmad, from Pittsburgh Jama’at, demonstrates these characteristics, as he spends his life working for the improvement of humanity.

He grew up in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and obtained his Bachelors in Computer Science from Islamabad in 2005.  Nisar started his career by working on Pakistan’s first online admissions test solution for his multi-campus undergraduate school.  He then joined Halliburton, where he worked on Enterprise Web Applications, Data management Solutions, and 3-D Business Simulations being used by the petroleum industry.

While pursuing his career goals, Nisar also dedicated a great amount of time to the Jama’at.  He served as Regional Nazim Tarbiyyat as well as Regional Nazim Atfal for the Rawalpindi area.   He recalls the passion of Jama’at workers who used to come straight to the regional mosque after finishing their day jobs to work for Jama’at until late night before heading off to their homes. It is Nisar’s firm belief which emanates from his experience that by sacrificing our time, money and energy for Jamaat, we grow spiritually and also in our worldly lives. It is up to us how fast we want to grow!

Nisar’s commitment to the Jama’at is a trait he inherited through his forefathers.  Nisar has the honor of being the great-grandson of Chaudhary Maula Buksh Bhatti who was a Sahabi of the Promised Messiah (PBUH). The name of this sahabi is mentioned on the first page of Hazrat Masih Maood’s book ‘Lecture Sialkot’ and also on Minar-tul-Masih Qadian for his contributions. Nisar’s grandfather, Dr. Shahnawaz Khan was the first medical missionary to Africa (Sierra Leon) in 1960, ten years before the launch of Nusrat Jahan Scheme by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih III.   With these great examples to guide him, it is no wonder that Nisar himself would also commit so greatly to the Jama’at as well.

Before coming to the United States for higher education, Nisar worked for the United Nations as an Information Systems consultant.  He was hired on a project of the World Health Organization to develop a nationwide health emergency preparedness and response system.  He collaborated with various stakeholders within the UN and with partner non-profits to roll out a GIS based system that enables all organizations to respond effectively in wake of any disaster or health related emergency.  He worked on this system for refugees coming in from the war zone and tribal areas, for which the WHO was providing health care facilities.

Currently, Nisar has come to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar pursuing his Masters in Information Systems Management (MISM) from Carnegie Mellon University.  He is also presently functioning as the Nazim Atfal, Nazim Waqr-e-Amal, and Nazim Tabligh for MKA Pittsburgh.  Besides being committed to serving Jamaat, some of his dreams and missions in life include launching a technology startup, writing a bestseller, making a compelling documentary, formulating public policy and establishing social welfare organizations.
