2010 January - Muhammad Ahmad Chaudhry
Muhammad Ahmad Chaudhry - January 2010
One's secular commitments and religious responsibilities rarely coincide as uniquely and perfectly as they do in Muhammad Ahmad Chaudhry's daily life. Presently functioning as the Naib Sadr of Majlis Khuddam ul Ahmadiyya USA, Muhammed Ahmad is also the President and CEO of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. These seemingly distinct responsibilities, inhabiting separately the religious world and the secular world, are in fact two parts of the same whole for Muhammed Ahmad. The unification of the two is evident through his singular passion to serve in the way of humanity.
Prior to heading the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF), Muhammed Ahmad's career resembled that of the typical business executive. After completing his education in business administration, he held management positions in marketing at the Clorox Company and Dazzle Multimedia. He functioned at these companies in the interest of his employers, marketing and promoting their products as expected of any responsible business executive.
However, the teachings and principles championed by Jama'at Ahmadiyya and Islam remained foremost in his intentions throughout his career. After gaining significant experience in the business world and upon being blessed with the right opportunity, Muhammad Ahmad realized his intentions of helping others by lending his experience and expertise to the Silicon Valley education system. As a resident of Silicon Valley, Muhammed Ahmad seeks to improve the quality of education as it affects both students and teachers. Towards this aim, he has been working tirelessly for the greater part of the last decade.
The Silicon Valley Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports innovation and improvement in the Silicon Valley education system. Under Muhammed Ahmad's leadership, the organization has grown into the leading foundation of its type, and it includes in its board of directors many illustrious business executives of the technologically fertile Silicon Valley. The foundation actively forms ties with businesses in the area in order to attract investment.
Muhammed Ahmad's role as CEO of the foundation stretches across all boundaries of business administration and incorporates anything from marketing, management, finances, human resources, public speaking, building relationships with businesses, and ofcourse, strategizing and providing a vision and road-map for the future. His passion to help others is especially realized through his role where he has the privilege to affect the lives of not one or two students, but the student body of the entire Silicon Valley, numbering over 250,000 individuals. Furthermore, the foundation also seeks to make improvements in the interest of teachers and families.
When asked about his motivation he replied, “If I have the opportunity to affect the lives of 250,000 students...” and left it at that on a self-explanatory note, suggesting how completely his work satisfies his ambitions. He further advised that work and career should not be entirely separate from helping others, and that it is important for each individual to realize the effect that they can have on society. For Muhammed Ahmad, his work is a way to give something back to his community.
And this sense of community, Muhammed Ahmad attributes to the Jama'at; to the mentors it provided him with, to its structure of leadership, to its promotion of brotherhood, and also to its affection for humanity. Simultaneously with his work, Muhammed Ahmad also functions for the Jama'at in a capacity very similar to what he does at work. As Naib Sadr of Majlis Khuddam ul Ahmadiyya he has the unique opportunity to directly affect the lives of the khuddam and atfal in the United States. Here again he lends his expertise in management, organization, administration, and public speaking. More than that, he serves as a mentor to every khuddam and atfal by organizing or moderating events and sessions especially designed to listen to their ideas and concerns. Those who know Muhammed Ahmed personally, also know that words fail to describe his devotion to the Jama'at and to Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya USA. Perhaps the person who knows Muhammed Ahmed best is Sadr Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya USA Faheem Younus himself who was quick to state that “Naib Sadr Sahib has always made himself available for any and all Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya needs... whether it required an email response, a phone conversation, or a red eye flight to the East Coast. His dedication is truly remarkable.”
While it is true that Muhammed Ahmed is a hard-working and busy individual, he is nevertheless easily approachable, open, and amicable as well. Saad Karamat, who has had the unique opportunity to work closely with Muhammed Ahmed in his role as Naib Muhtamim Isha’at describes:
“MAC Bhai [Muhammed Ahmed] is like an elder brother to me. He is an extremely spectacular person who is almost perfectly balanced, inspiring, humble, and well-wishing. This shining superstar has achieved a vast amount of success in all facets of his life, and I look up to him and his character immensely.”
In the future, Muhammed Ahmad seeks to further integrate his work and Jama'at life. He summarized his aspirations for the Silicon Valley Education Foundation in three words: “Bigger, better, faster!” As a parting message, he stressed the importance of realizing the difference one can make in the lives of others, a principle that is evident through each aspect of his life.
