Los Angeles / Inland Empire, Southwest

This month’s Shining Star is Naser Noor of Los Angeles / Inland Empire. Born in Peshawar, Pakistan in 1970, Naser is the eldest of four brothers. As a young boy, he had many hobbies. Among those were stamp-collecting, as well as feeding local stray dogs that would have otherwise roamed the streets, looking for food. At the age of 19, he moved to the US with his family.

While in college, he initially worked part-time in retail banking and then moved up the ranks. Afterwards, he worked as an Assistant Manager in sales and from there transferred into commercial and real estate banking. Today, he works for a mortgage company.

Naser Noor has been married for 10 years and has been blessed with four children, ranging from age one to age 10. His family enjoys going on long drives, as well as going to the beach and park. Besides Jamaat work and spending time with his family, Naser bhai enjoys reading both secular and Jamaat books.

The golden years of Naser Noor’s life were from 2006 to 2010: the years he served as Southwest Regional Qaid. He describes these years as amazing - not only because of the blessings involved in serving the Jamaat and MKA, but also because they were very enriching personally. The days were long and hard, but the joy was tremendous. Initially, the appointment as Regional Qaid came as a shock for Naser Bhai: “I never expected that I was capable of doing such a thing, and initially it was very hard to even imagine. But Alhamdulillah with the prayers of Sadr sahib, my family, fellow khuddam, and Hazoor (aba), I slowly got the hang of it.” While Naser bhai says “slowly,” many who interact with him know that he is merely being humble. One of his former Qaideen, Armaghan Mallik now in LA East comments, “the thing that most impressed me about him his humility throughout his tenure…He always truly treated all the Khuddam as his brothers as opposed to it being just lip service”. Similarly, present Regional Qaid of Southwest Region, Akmal Ahmed, comments that Naser Bhai “is very humble at all times. He truly inspires me because he exemplifies what a terrific leader should be.”

One of the aspects of being Regional Qaid that Naser bhai enjoyed the most was meeting local khuddam throughout his region. He would go on long drives to majalis like Las Vegas and Tucscon to spend time with them and get to know them. He narrates, “Initially it took me one or two visits to get to know them, but after that visiting them was like visiting family. I would give them a call and they would look forward to meeting me. Recently I visited Las Vegas and khuddam and atfal sat down and we reminisced the last time I visited.”

The highlight of his reign as RQ was being able to host QRC on the West Coast for the very first time: “Allah Tallah blessed us to take care of 227 members. Khuddam of the Southwest Region did all the hardwork. Working in their company was truly a joy and a great memory of my Qiadat.”

When asked what advice he has to give to khuddam, he modestly responded, “I don’t have any advice of my own. I always got advice from the Khalifat-e-Ahmadiyya and Nizam-e-Jamaat. Look at Mashalay Rah – you will get a lot of ideas from there.” One poem he has found inspiration from is ‘Naaunahalanay jamaat’. He says, “don’t expect anything in return for serving the Jamaat. Doing so is simply a blessing upon you from Allah Tallah. Allah opens up spiritual and even worldly blessings without you even thinking about it.”

As Naser Noor bhai leaves the fold of MKA, let us thank him for all his relentless efforts in the many capacities he has served, and especially for his dedication as Regional Qaid. May Allah continue to bless him with more opportunities to serve the Jamaat, Insha Allah.
