Poem By Muhaimin

Shining Star of the Month- August 2008

 Brother Abdul Muhaimin Karim Shaheed
Chicago East

On Saturday, December 23, 2006, our dear brother Abdul Muhaimin Karim Sahib passed away from a fatal gun shot wound at his barbershop in Chicago, Illinois. Brother Karim was a former Naib Sadr for Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA and a very active member of the Chicago East Jama’at.

Brother Karim was born on February 22, 1973 in Chicago, IL. The son of Momina and Abdul Karim (current President of Chicago East Jama’at), he also has two older brothers - Abdul Noor and Abdul Qahhar, and a younger sister Amatus Sami. His wife, Amatush Shukur, is the daughter of Abdul Wahab Adam, Respected Ameer of Jama’at Ghana. She currently resides in Ghana with their two daughters Naila and Amtul Haleem. Brother Karim planned to relocate to Ghana and was taking a short trip back to the United States when he passed away.

Brother Karim was a tremendously dedicated member of the Jama’at. He served as Naib Sadr for Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, USA and has been part of the Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya National Amila since 1994. At the local level, he has served the Chicago East Jama’at as Finance Secretary and the Secretary of Publications.
Brother Karim owned a barber shop in Chicago, which gave him an outlet to serve the community. His deep knowledge, charisma, and fresh perspectives allowed him to excel in the propagation of Islam-Ahmadiyyat. He was a shining star of the African-American Ahmadi community, and indeed a model for all Ahmadi youth in the United States.

Brother Karim will be remembered by all for his selfless dedication to the Jama’at and humanity at large, his dynamic personality and his unyielding desire to spread the truth of Islam-Ahmadiyyat to all those of whom he met. He will be dearly missed.

Words from Repected Sadr Majlis

It was the summer of 2004 when Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya USA organized its 26th National Ijtema in Detroit, Michigan. Brother Muhaimin Karim was Naib Sadr MKA USA and Afser Ijtema. I was serving as Qaid Majlis Baltimore and arrived with 14 khuddam around 2 pm on Friday. We wanted to grab a quick lunch but we were told by the Langer Khana personnel, 'food can only be served at the end of the opening session'. They were right. The opening session was about to commence and if everyone started eating food, who would attend the session? But our khuddam were extremely hungry. I requested the organizers to allow us to go to a local McDonalds or a Burger King that we saw along the way.

Brother Muhaimin came to know about this somehow. As Afser Ijtema, he must have had dozens of tasks to take care of but he directly came to Langer Khana himself and approached me. 'You are not going any where Qaid sahib', he said. "But I do request that at least one of our Khadim be allowed..." I was interrupted right there by my dear brother Muhaimin who responded with a warm smile, "You are not going any where because we will serve food to all of you, right now, right here'. 'You did not have to do this brother Muhaimin', I said hesitantly. His response was direct and simple, 'Brother you are the guests of Promised Messiah (as) and we are not going to let the guests of Promised Messiah (as) stay hungry at our Ijtema or go off premises to get food. He then made sure that everyone was taken care of and came back to us repeatedly to ensure the highest level of
hospitality.

The clarity of my brother's thought process, the directness in his communication, and the warmth of his personality was unforgettable.

May Allah the Exalted shower His love upon my dear brother Muhaimin Karim's soul and elevate his status in the heavens, Amen.

-Faheem Younus Qureshi, Sadr Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya
