2008 June - Manar Ahmad

Manar Ahmad, Los Angeles West Majlis

This month’s Shining Star features Manar Ahamad of Los Angeles West Majlis. Born in 1992 in Bangladesh, Manar knew right from his childhood that he wanted to serve the Jama’at. In 2003, Manar and his family relocated from Bangladesh to California. He has two siblings – an older brother and a younger sister. Currently, Manar is a sophomore at University High School in Los Angeles. When he was asked about his plans after high school, Manar promptly responded, “I’ll be going to Jamia to become a missionary.”

2008 May - Rizwan Jattala

Rizwan Jattala, Inland Empire, CA Majlis

Just east of Los Angeles and north of the infamous Orange County is a regjon known as the Inland Empire.  There in resides a Khadim, who stands six foot-three inches, in his senior year of high school.  He towers above his peers not only in height, but also in academics and spirituality.

2008 April - Ayaz Khan

To me, a star is someone who overcomes the hardships in life to reach their ultimate goal.   I consider Ayaz Khan a Shining Star in many ways.  In 6th grade, he was diagnosed with Osgood-schlatters disease, which is a condition caused by the bone rubbing against the tendon, causing extreme pain. Thus, it made it very difficult for him to play sports, especially football.

2008 March - Shan Faizi

This month's Shining Star is Shan Faizi, a twelve year old Tifl who lives in High Point North Carolina with his parents, two younger brothers and an older sister. His Dada and Dadi (Paternal grandparents) also live with them.

2008 February - Athar Malik

Athar Malik, Boston Majlis
This month's Shining Star is Athar N. Malik, a Khadim from Boston Majlis.  He currently serves the Jama’at as Secretary Tabligh and Amoor-e-Tulaba (Student Affairs) for MKA-Boston, as well as the Imam for the Boston Jummah Center , and the General Secretary for the Association of Ahmadi Muslim Scientists-USA (AAMS-USA).  Professionally, Athar is pursuing an M.D. degree through the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology as well as a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience at Harvard Medical School as an M.D./Ph.D. student at Harvard Medical School.  Athar feels very blessed to be a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and strives to serve his religion and humanity.

2007 December - Tuseef Chaudhry

Tuseef has always wanted to work with people in some capacity so that he can help them. When he was younger, he thought of becoming a police officer. In pursuit of such a goal, Tuseef was a police explorer for four years and a police cadet for two during his high school and college years. During his tenure as police explorer, he led the post as captain and received the Washington State Police Explorer of the Year award in 2002, and the Washington Law Enforcement and Explorer Association Scholarship in 2004.

2007 November - Mansoor Shams

Mansoor's story begins in October 2004, when he had recently finished his active duty obligation with the United States Marine Corps. With a Bachelors degree in Business Administration in one hand and an honorable discharge in the other, he had accomplished something very few manage to do, complete a full-time education while serving as a full-time active duty U.S. Marine. Twenty-two years old, he was young and highly motivated, ready to take on anything that came his way.

2007 October - Jameel Matin

Jameel’s strong commitment to Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya at such a young age is well-known among his peers.  Born on October 15, 1987, Jameel grew up very close to Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino, California.  As a Tifl, he took an active part in Atfal classes and other Majlis activities.  When he turned fifteen, he began to take a strong interest in Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya.

2007 August - Arshad Khan

This month’s Shining Star features Arshad Mahmood Khan of Los Angeles Majlis. Arshad has always been passionate about his field in neuroscience. As a kid, Arshad stood out. While other kids might have been playing videogames, he would enjoy naming all the stars with his close friends. He enjoyed reading books that other children considered unusual, such as those on reptiles and astronomy. He was extremely passionate and curious about the intricate details encompassed in the natural world, essentially most things about science.

 

2007 July- Harris Qureshi

Harris Qureshi, Silicon Valley Majlis

This month's Shining Star is Harris Qureshi, from Silicon Valley Majlis.  Harris recently graduated from the University of California in May, 2007 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science and a minor in Public Policy. Harris was always interested in political issues and how policies are made. What especially motivated Harris to pursue a career in Political Science were the devastating events of September 11th; he realized just how influential the U.S. relationship with the rest of the world was.

2007 June - Madeel Abdullah

Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” (Hellen Keller) One individual who has become the quintessence of hard work and success is Madeel Abdullah Hagura of Philadelphia Majlis, this month's Shining Star. His hard work and sacrifice serve witness to the extraordinary amount of success he has achieved at a young age.   

2007 May - Ayaz ul Haque

Ayaz ul Haque - Silicon Valley Majlis

This month’s Shining Star features Ayaz ul Haque from Silicon Valley, CA, a successful Venture Capitalist. After growing up in Pakistan, Ayaz came to the U.S. to study at Middlebury College for an individualized liberal arts education, where he was able to hone cognitive skills, develop quantitative and qualitative skills, and gain a breadth of knowledge from numerous disciplines. After obtaining a BA in Economics, Ayaz began his career working as a Wall Street investment banker at Bear, Stearns & Co., gaining valuable training and experience on the job.

2007 April - Adeel Khan

ADEEL KHAN - Baltimore Majlis

Featured this month is a young khadim from the Baltimore Majlis, Adeel Khan, age 15. Adeel is currently a high school sophomore who is a member of the Howard-Area Home Schoolers in Columbia, Maryland. He is kept active by playing soccer; and other interests include memorization and recitation of the Holy Qur'an, computer programming, playing chess, and mathematics. During his freshman and sophomore years, Adeel took part in numerous competitive mathematics tournaments.

2007 March - Iftikhar Ahmad Ali

Iftikhar Ahmad Ali, M.D. - Houston Majlis

Iftikhar Ahmad Ali, M.D., was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1971, and relocated with his family to Houston in late 1979.  His academic excellence during high school procured a scholarship to attend the University of Houston.  After graduating with honors, Iftikhar went on to Texas Tech Medical School, and then returned closer to home to complete a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.  After completing his residency in 2000, Iftikhar joined the faculty of UTMB as an Attending Physician in both departments of Internal and Emergency Medicine, working largely in the Level I ER at the facility.

2007 February - Sohail Z Husain

Sohail Z. Husain, M.D.
Sohail Husain, MD, is Assistant Muhtamim Tarbiyyat Nau-Mobaeen for MKA USA. He is also Taleem/Tarbiyyat Nazim for his local MKA Connecticut Majlis and serves as Tabligh and Public Relations Secretary for the local Jama'at. Professionally, Dr. Husain is an Assistant Professor at Yale University School of Medicine. He immigrated from Nagpur, India to New York City as a young child. Graduating with a BS in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University (NY), in 1994 he then went on to Medical School at Tufts University, in Boston, Massachusetts.
