MKA USA Historic Day on the Hill

“We come to Capitol Hill not to ask but to give. We want to help feed the hungry in America.”

Dr. Bilal Rana, Sadr MKA USA, uttered these solemn words at the press conference on Capitol Hill. On May 30th, over 250 Khuddam heeded the call of Sadr MKA USA and travelled from around the US to participate in the first visit of MKA USA to Capitol Hill.

Muslim young men and boys from across the United States came to pray for the nation and to meet congressional leaders. The day began with meetings with various congressmen and congresswomen at their offices. A press conference featuring Congresswoman Jackie Speier co-chair of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus and Congressman Mike Honda provided important statements highlighting the visit.

Inaugural Walk for Humanity and Food Drive

In the early afternoon Muavin Sadr Haris Raja,  marshalled the group for the inaugural walk in the 2014 Walk for Humanity Campaign. Supported by Affan Abdullah and his Khidmate Khalq team, the group participated in a food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank.

At the launch of the walk and the Food Drive, Dr. Bilal Rana explained that one of our goals as Ahmadi Muslims is to serve humanity. Thus we have come to offer support to the Washington Area Food Bank along with our partner Humanity First USA. Our goal is to alleviate the food insecurity of people in the area and throughout our nation.

Chris Paukstis of the Capital Metro Food Bank described the dire situation of hunger in the US as well as in the nation’s capital. She expressed gratitude for MKA USA’s continuing support and accepted the gift of more than 1000 items of food brought in from khuddam around the country.

Epic Milestone

This faith inspiring event marks a milestone for MKA USA. It was an opportunity for MKA USA to present the true Islamic teachings to our leaders, and an opportunity to serve our nation. As Sadr Majlis continued to state in his press conference, “[T]he Holy Quran reads, ‘They feed for love of Him, the poor, the orphans, and the prisoners.’ Today we are here for the love of Him, our creator, and the love for our nation – The United States of America.”
