From the Holy Qur'an...
"Then they advance and greatly excel others." (Holy Qu'ran 79:5)

In the words of the Promised Messiahas...
"God has informed me again and again, that He will grant me great glory and instill my love in people’s hearts…the members of my sect shall so excel in knowledge and insight that they will confound everyone with the light of their truth and by dint of their arguments and signs."
(Tajalliyat-e-Ilahiya, p36)

Shining Star of the Month
Mehboobul Alam Ali (Seattle Majlis)
mahbubul_alam_ali.jpg     As a student studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Drexel Univeristy, Mehboob obtained an internship at Microsoft. From here, he was recruited straight out of school to begin working full time. Today Mehboob is a Principal Group Manager at Microsoft. Here he is a part of the MSN division, in which he focuses on profiling and advertising. His main role involves building software and Internet services based on the needs and wants of customers.

Mehboob’s views about the Internet could be interesting to those who are not a part of the Information Technology industry. He believes that the “Internet and software engineering are at very early growth stages”, and that there is a lot of potential for innovation. The infrastructure is there, but applications are not. He also says that “it is very difficult and unnatural for us humans to use computers and the Internet today”. Accordingly, he sees a big drive towards the creation of a human friendly interface. He is in favor of Microsoft buying out Yahoo, and he believes that consolidation in the Internet industry is inevitable, just like in any other growing industry.

Mehboob is very active in the Jamaat. He has been the President of the Seattle Jamaat since 1997. Prior to that, he was Qaid of Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya for Seattle. Currently he is on the Humanity First advisory board, for which he was recently played a part in creating a new website, whose servers are based and maintained in Seattle.

Not surprisingly, he is also in charge of the Information Technology department for the U.S. Jamaat. He has created a secure email system, at ww.amcusa.org, for both local and national amila members. He also heads the data center for the U.S. Jamaat., and is teaching Khuddam production level services. It is quite apparent that Seattle is tech savvy under the leadership of Mehboob.

Mehboob is taking a unique approach to preparing for the KCC program that is scheduled to be held in May. To scout out an appropriate guest base, he used a two-pronged approach. First, he invited a cluster of non-ahmadi muslims for an event entitled ‘Leadership in Islam’. Then he has also planed another event in which he will invite churches, synagogues, and other religious entities to an event focusing on Faith. These events are meant to be unifying, and will help find appropriate guests with which the Seattle Majlis can celebrate the Khilafat Centenary.

When asked about what advice he has for Khuddam, he replied with one key advice: “When it gets the toughest on your time, that is when you HAVE to sacrifice your time to the Jamaat and Allah. When I look back, it has paid off in huge ways”. He says that success in all aspects of life such as marriage, children, and one’s career are greatly tied to one’s connection with the Jamaat. May we all learn from Mehboob’s guided way of life, and may we strive to achieve highly in all aspects of our lives, for it is the spiritual aspects of our life that seem to have a large influence on how other parts of our life play out.

Submission Guidelines & FAQ:

        1.  What is this?
Allah revealed to the Promised Messiah (as) regarding his followers…"people of his community will excel in worldly knowledge and He will bestow His bounty on them." This section is devoted to such ‘munim alyhim,’ the blessed ones, who may have scored victories and achievements in various spiritual, educational, or professional arenas.

    2.  Can you give me a few examples?

This section invites stories of converts to Islam and Ahmadiyyat, since the biggest blessing is found in the recognition of the right path to Allah the Almighty. In addition, if you know of a child who won a spelling bee competition, a student with an excellent GPA or SAT score, an athlete with an extra ordinary achievement, a khadim who received an award at the workplace, a physician who was recognized by a professional society, a researcher who is working on a scientific breakthrough, or anyone along those lines – we would like to know about that.

    3.  Can I submit a story about a personal achievement of my own?

Yes, you can. Realize that what we are really glorifying is Allah's Grace and Mercy upon the followers of the Promised Messiah (as) by seeing the individual talents Allah has bestowed upon those members of the community. Therefore when you submit your story, you are actually saying, "I am a witness that Allah’s promise to his Messiah has been fulfilled."

    4.  What information is needed in order to submit an entry for a Shining Star Profile?

Specific details of the achievement and a photo of the individual being highlighted are requested. In addition, a Consent to Publish form must be completed by the person featured in the Shining Star profile. Please limit submissions to 500 words.

    5.  What is the publication process?

After we receive a submission, the MKA USA Publications Review Board will consider it, and verify accuracy and appropriateness*. If all of the required information is complete and we have a Consent to Publish on-file, the submission will be posted to the Shining Stars section of this site.

    6.  Where do I send my submission to?

Send completed submissions to Asif Jamil, Asst. Director of Publications / Naib Muhtamim Isha'at at: asif08@gmail.com.

We look forward to your submissions!
